In the heart of Waterloo, the Wellington Museum is housed in a former 18th century coaching inn.
The Duke of Wellington, commander of the allied army fighting Napoleon's French forces, made the building his headquarters on 17 and 18 June 1815. It was from here that he sent the British government news of their victory.

The museum has a vast collection of educational exhibits – a multitude of original documents, engravings, weapons and other artefacts. Each room is dedicated to one of the nations that took part in the battles of 18 June 1815.
In the last room, a series of illuminated diagrams shows how the gruesome battle unfolded, phase by phase.

The museum is open daily except on 1 January and 25 December
